Julia
Julia is one of the new trustees and directors of Uganda Creates taking on the role early in 2019. She first became involved in the charity through her work with AbleChildAfrica in which she remotely supported the capacity building and project development of local East African charities and projects to improve the access and quality of education to children with disabilities in their communities.
Julia is very passionate about the access to opportunities and empowerment, especially through locally lead projects. She has worked on the ground with the grassroots Indian charity Thriveseed giving girls and boys access to education in the slums of Delhi, whilst also challenging the stigma attached to girls having the right to access formal education. Additionally, she has a masters in Gender, Development and Globalisation (MSc) from the London School of Economics, and currently works on the programmes side of a children's medical charity called Chain of Hope. In her current position, she works with correspondents in over 30 countries, mostly based in the African countries, to coordinate the care and transfer of children with severe cardiac problems to world class hospitals where they can be given life saving treatment.
