how we spend your money

We work harder than anyone to ensure that as much of your money as possible goes to where it is needed.

All our UK’s staff expenses are spent individually, outside of the charity (including flights and visits to Uganda), meaning that all the money we raise goes directly to the projects and programmes in Uganda.

ONLY 2% OF OUR TOTAL SPEND IN 2016 WENT TOWARDS EXPENDITURE IN THE UK IN 2016. THIS AMOUNTS TO £173

Only 2% of our total spend in 2016 went towards expenditure in the UK. This amounts to £173. Of this, £160 went towards bank transfers to Uganda, with the futher £13 spent on filing our annual accounts.

We are expecting to increase our spending in the UK over the next few years as we implement a five-year plan to transition our funding more towards trusts and foundations in order to build a more sustainable and independent organisation from Uganda.

Breakdown of Spending

There is a fairly even split in our expenditure between the key areas of our work.

  • Our Recreation function accounted for 24% of total costs;
  • Our Education function accounted for 25%; and
  • Our Training function was slightly lower at 19%.

Our staff and office costs in Uganda are our largest cost, accounting for 29% of all expenditure in the year.

Within the various disciplines, 56% of expenditure goes towards staff salaries across the projects. The majority of this is allocated towards our central staff costs, as our staff employed in the communities work on a part-time basis.
